Peter Gooding, former athletic director of Amherst College, is revered as one of America's top collegiate athletic administrators. After over thirty years of outstanding leadership and service, Peter retired as head of Amherst College Athletics in 2007. Peter's involvement in American Youth Soccer and his work with the NSCAA Coaching Academy has been called "revolutionary" and "inspiring." The breadth of Peter's experience is truly remarkable, and his accomplishments are too many to list. Peter helped build Amherst College into one of the most intellectually and academically challenging destinations for the student athlete in the United States. Peter left his blueprint at Amherst for others to follow for years to come, and in the fall of 2007, with hundreds of his former student athletes in attendance, Amherst College dedicated its state of the art athletic facility "Gooding Field," to honor Peter's contribution. Peter has helped teach and mentor some of Americas top college coaches not only in soccer but in numerous other sports as well. Peter's former student-athletes have gone on to shape the world that we live in today, as leaders in medicine, business, law and education; all point to Peter as a steadying and thoughtful mentor during their formative years at Amherst. Peter will serve on the Board of Directors of Gooding Sports Group and will be actively involved in the day to day operations of GSG.
